Texas keeps growing faster than the rest of the country. In the 12 months to September, the state added 154,300 jobs. For IT roles, though, the hard part is not finding demand. It is finding people.
From our Austin headquarters, IntegrateUs has helped Texas employers hire IT talent since 2011. Here is what this fall's numbers mean for your next hire.
Texas IT staffing: the numbers this fall
- Texas leads the country in projected tech job growth. CompTIA projects Texas will add about 32,238 tech jobs in 2026, more than any other state. Dallas and Austin rank second and third among US metro areas for projected tech jobs added (CompTIA).
- Texas is outpacing the nation. Annual job growth of 1.1% is 0.8 percentage points ahead of the national rate (Office of the Texas Governor, October 16).
- Tech openings are at a three-year high. Active tech job postings reached 625,633 in September, the highest total in more than three years (CompTIA, October 2).
- Few tech workers are out of work. US tech unemployment is 3.3%, below the national rate of 4.2% for all workers (CompTIA).
Together, these figures suggest that strong IT candidates in Texas have choices.
Where demand is strongest

Across the US, the tech roles with the most job postings in September were software developers, systems engineers, tech support specialists, data analysts and DevOps engineers (CompTIA).
In Texas, cybersecurity has a new source of demand. Under House Bill 150, the new Texas Cyber Command, headquartered in San Antonio, must take over the cybersecurity functions of the Texas Department of Information Resources by December 31, 2026. Its operations include a threat intelligence center, an incident response unit and a digital forensics lab, and its careers page says it is recruiting as it builds them.
Our view: as the Command staffs up, Texas employers hiring cybersecurity professionals may face more competition for the same skills.
What Texas employers should do now
Recruit, don't just post. With US tech unemployment at 3.3%, most strong candidates already have jobs. Reach out to them directly, and be ready to explain why your role is worth a move.
Move fast. In a tight market, strong candidates may be talking to other employers too. Keep interviews short and make decisions within days.
Cover gaps with contract talent. Contract or contract-to-hire IT professionals can keep projects moving while you search for the right permanent hire.
How IntegrateUs helps
IntegrateUs places IT professionals on contract, contract-to-hire or direct hire, so you can match each hire to the need:
- Short-term gaps and time-sensitive projects: contract professionals through IT staff augmentation.
- Specialized roles: cybersecurity, cloud and infrastructure, and data and analytics professionals for hard-to-fill positions.
- Longer-term positions: permanent team members through direct hire recruiting.
- A trial period: contract-to-hire lets you see someone's work before making a permanent offer.
